Operating in Cleveland, Ohio, the Cuyahoga County Board of Election’s mission is to serve the citizens of Cuyahoga County by faithfully conducting the elections through which they choose their representatives. The principal role of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections is to perform the fundamental and vital functions of administering federal, state, and local elections. In making each and every election fair, accurate, and transparent, the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections seeks to achieve the following objectives:
• To provide access and opportunity for all eligible citizens in the electoral process.
• To provide accurate and verifiable election results.
• To conduct all activities in a way that assures equal opportunity in the most efficient and effective manner.
• To plan and perform all duties in accordance with the election laws of the federal government, the State of Ohio, and the state’s chief election official, the Ohio Secretary of State.
With a voting population of 903,046, Cuyahoga County consists of: 38 cities; 19 villages; 2 townships; 36 school districts; 9 library systems; 1 port authority; and 1 park authority. In its 975 voting precincts, the voters of Cuyahoga County utilize equipment from Election Systems & Software. Cuyahoga County owns 1,200 precinct/polling location based optical scanners (DS200 model) for precinct level voting, 635 ADA voting units (AutoMARK) for each polling location, and 5 high-speed digital scanners (DS850 model) for scanning vote-by-mail and provisional ballots.
The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has 91 full-time positions and occupies two buildings. Our Main Building is located on the corner of East 30th and Euclid and serves as the administrative hub of the agency. Our secondary building is the Tabulation Center, located within one mile from the Main Building. Equipment testing, vote-by-mail ballot scanning and Election Night operations all take place at the Board’s Tabulation Center.
